Resident Evil 2 was funnnnn!

Hi everyone! I like to play video games, so I’m trying something new by sharing my experience with this blog post.

Okay, so a little bit about me and gaming - I don’t usually play horror games, but I do like to watch other people play them (as a passive hobby to put it in the background while I do other things). In general, I like video games that have a story with cutscenes, and it’s been something that I look forward to every weekend to play and stream to my friends for a couple of hours.

However, let me tell you about Resident Evil 2 (2019 remake)! Man...when I first started playing this game, it was rough. I got jump-scared easily. I was on Assist/Easy Mode. I couldn’t aim with the gun. So, I was shooting at the wall instead of the zombies while frantically screaming because I did not want to die. I learned that not only I am geographically challenged in real life, but I am also bad with the map and directions in the game, haha.

This was not my first Resident Evil game experience, either. I played Resident Evil Village a few years ago and watched my friend play Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Yet, I was still an inexperienced gamer, so all the controls were new to me.

The game starts with two characters: Leon, who starts his first day of duty as a police officer, and Claire, who is trying to find her missing brother. In the beginning, they met and tried to visit the city’s police department. However, they became separated as there was a huge zombie outbreak near the station. From there, the player can choose which character path they want to play. I personally started my first path with Leon and then played the next round with Claire. Overall, the two characters are both trying to escape and figure out why the zombie outbreak was suddenly happening to the city, and they eventually find out that the government was involved in creating the “G-virus” that caused it. The player needs to survive the zombies as well as solve puzzles to unlock certain areas and/or doors to progress in the game. In my opinion, this game does not have much of a story, especially if you play only one path. (I was a bit confused when it first ended because I didn’t know I had to play it again, so you need to do both paths for the story to be complete.) However, I think this is a great survival horror video game for the time it was, which was released in 1998, and I can see why people like and hyped it a lot. From what I have heard, this game defined horror games in the early 2000’s so it’s a pop culture icon, too.

Plus, I felt that I have grown in this game. It was a refreshing experience because I didn’t feel the need to have to get better, whereas, I always try to push myself in my other hobbies. I was only having fun and laughed my ass off whenever I died, countless times, because I enjoyed being bad at this game. It was funny to be killed by zombies, especially when it was my fault for making the wrong move. I know some gamers are competitive and strategic in how they play, but I was only here for the vibes!

As I was playing this game, I’ve gotten better throughout my time with it. I became sharper - my aim and my sense of direction in the game were better. I stopped being scared. Instead, I started to feel a bit annoyed at the zombies whenever they popped up. I would always loot items and I was happy when I saw the map cleared out, and that gave me a sense of accomplishment.

Because of this game, I invested in a new monitor. Funny story - I was using the same monitor since 2008, so I literally could not see where I was going at first. As I was streaming, my friends were finding things that I could not see. And I had the brightness all the way up, so while it was still dark for me, it was amusingly bright for them. So yeah, it was time to get a new, long-overdue, monitor.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is out, so I’m excited to play that game soon. I’ve seen too much internet hype on this game, so I just have to play it and add it to my collection of Resident Evil games.

I enjoyed Resident Evil 2 a lot and I hope you enjoy this blog post! Until then, thanks for reading!

And thank you, Chase, for gifting me this game! 🎮

At least I passed.😂
